Marketing Specialist - Development and GCPS Foundation

License and Certification Qualifications: None required.

Education Qualifications: Bachelor?s degree in related field required. Master?s degree in related field preferred

Experience Qualifications: Three years of related experience in public relations, marketing and external/internal communications. Social Media experience is required. Superior verbal, and written, and public communication and presentation skills. Excellent organization and time management skills. Ability to work evenings, early mornings and weekends is required. Ability to meet assigned deadlines and work under pressure.

Skills Qualifications: Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication; ability to collaborate with individuals and groups; ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences internally and externally, ability to plan and organize financial resources. Ability to develop and maintain effective fund-raising initiatives. Demonstrated skills in organization and problem solving; detail-oriented; ability to communicate clearly and courteously by telephone and in writing; strong interpersonal skills; ability to meet continuous deadlines.

Primary Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Development, plan, organize, and implement marketing and public relations strategies and activities that support the financial growth of the GCPS Foundation Fund. Use oral and written skills to effectively communicate to internal and external audiences, serving as a member of the Foundation team to build support for the district's vision, mission, and goals and to promote a positive image of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS), its programs, and local schools.

1. Support all strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation, and relations.
a. Maintain contact with donors and develop grant proposals for foundations and corporations.
b. Support employee-based fundraising programs.
c. Assist with writing, editing, and submitting funding applications.

2. Assume responsibility for development reports to the Board and donor agencies.
a. Assist in planning and attending all Foundation Board meetings.
b. Interact with and assist board members and trustees.  

3. Support donor and gift record-keeping.
a. Coordinate research activities to develop strategic long-term development initiatives.
b. Help with the management of databases, records, files, and gift processing.
c. Assist with the pledge reminder, acknowledgment, and scholarship programs.
d. Research and procure grants in accordance with the district's grant policy and procedure.

4. Support and maintain employee/ retiree relations by securing, managing, and promoting employee perks.
a. Assist with community awareness presentations for local businesses, service organizations, individuals, and groups interested in supporting the Foundation.

5. Support and maintain corporate and community relations.
a. Support and maintain the corporate, grant funders, and community databases.
b. Support the corporate and community giving campaign.
c. Support school partnerships and community associations.

6. Support a comprehensive public relations, marketing, and advertising program.
a. Assist in writing content, seeking trustee quotes, preparing press releases, and ensuring the final product is ready for release in major publications in alignment with GCPS standards.
b. Develop and implement strategies to promote the Foundation's mission to internal and external stakeholders.
c. Maintain high editorial standards and conform to GCPS' style guide and editorial policy, ensuring quality control, including accuracy in spelling, punctuation, and grammar, adherence to GCPS style in all written work, and appropriate handling of material and information.
d. Support engagement on social media platforms.
e. Generate day-to-day content and expand and update social media and fundraising platforms. Develop platform profiles by improving content and increasing followers, likes, and sharing.

7. Assist with preparation for fundraising events and attend them.
a. Serve as the initial point of contact for the Gwinnett County Sports Hall of Fame and be intricately involved with all facets of this event.

8. Participate in weekly staff meetings, quarterly division meetings, and other meetings as needed.

9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
