The Special Education Teacher under the directions of the School Principal, the Special Education Director and other special education administrators, the special education teacher plans and provides an appropriate learning experience for students with disabilities in a variety of educational environments. The person in this position is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the student benefits from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aids, accommodations and other needed supports as developed through the student’s (IEP) Individualized Education Program.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors Degree in Special Education and hold a clear-renewable Georgia teaching certificate at the SRT Level. Ability to motivate and to relate to with respect to learning styles to make learning meaningful, effective, contextual and involving positive interactions for the ongoing intellectual development of young minds. Ability to successfully integrate technology into the classroom while engaging students. Ability to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities Experience in working with sensitive information regarding students; able to perform duties maintaining confidentiality along with professional demeanor when interacting with individuals. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Present, organized and enthusiastically committed to the success of all assigned students for the school calendar. Ability to teach special needs children with learning disabilities and/or intellectual, physical, emotional or behavioral disorders, autism, etc. Develop detailed instructional plans and outlines for instructing the pupils and subject matter assigned which will achieve the educational results desired. Instruct designed classes in accordance with formulated plans and outlines, modified as necessary to achieve the learning objectives; all within the policies of the school system. Maintain the degree of discipline and order in the classroom necessary to effectively instruct the class. Committed professional, guarding instructional time by demonstrated attendance. Counsel with students and parents on learning and discipline problems as necessary. Perform related duties as assigned as circumstances require. Complete all records and reports on time and with accuracy. Maintain satisfactory performance on the system Evaluation Instrument. Perform other duties as assigned by Principal(s). SALARY RANGE: Ten months. Salary Schedule in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide
