License and Certification Qualifications: A combination of A+, Network+, Linux+, LPIC, MCSE, or similar industry-standard certifications strongly preferred.

Education Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.

Experience Qualifications: Five years of experience in systems administration or related field; Experience with shell scripting and programming; Experience with both Linux and Windows Server operating systems strongly preferred; Experience working in a large and complex organization preferred.

Skills Qualifications: Knowledge of the concepts and methodology of enterprise systems monitoring and automation; skills in configuring monitoring and automation solutions (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc); skills and knowledge in shell scripting and programming (Powershell, Python, or similar); ability to work well with a diverse team; ability to communicate in an effective manner; ability to translate needs into creative solutions; strong customer service skills.

Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for providing support and management for the enterprise systems monitoring and automation solutions.

1. Provides expert-level guidance on the selection, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise systems monitoring and automation solutions.
a. Relies upon industry knowledge, experience, and research to provide input on solution selection.
b. Leads support and maintenance efforts for monitoring and automation solutions through all lifecycle phases.
2. Leads development of a strategy to provide comprehensive enterprise availability and performance monitoring and alerting.
a. Collaborates with system administrators, application administrators, and business owners on monitoring and alerting requirements.
b. Works with SaaS providers, vendors of locally installed software, and others to develop comprehensive application performance monitoring.
c. Identifies key metrics, indicators, and cardinal signals that require monitoring in systems and applications.
d. Through continuous improvement efforts, ensures that false positives and false negatives are kept to a minimum.
e. Collaborates with key stakeholders in the organization to develop a robust, timely, accurate, and comprehensive alerting strategy.
f. When appropriate, works with other teams to integrate monitoring alerts into the organization’s ITSM solution, creating incidents or other actions as required.
3. Leads efforts to provide effective enterprise automation to increase operational efficiency, reduce human error, and to provide consistency.
a. Works within the department and other teams on creating service request offerings within the organization’s ITSM solution, providing a self-service portal for the most popular, critical, and/or time-consuming requests.
b. Within the department, identifies processes that are candidates for automation that provide the most impact. Collaborates within the department and with other teams on the introduction and development of automation to support daily operations.
c. Works closely with Windows and Unix systems administrators as well as application administrators on automation of system patching and upgrades.
4. Assists in problem and trend identification within GCPS systems.
a. Works with system and application administrators in identifying recurring issues.
b. Analyzes trends and proposes improvements in monitoring and automation.
5. Provides Continuous Quality Improvement in departmental processes.
6. Performs other duties as assigned..

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to touch, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
