License and Certification Qualifications: Strongly prefer UNIX/Linux certification such as Linux+.

Education Qualifications: Associate's degree in related field required. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.

Experience Qualifications: Three to five years of UNIX or Linux experience required. Experience with virtualization such as VMWare or KVM; preferably with Red Hat/CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE, RHEV/oVirt, and OpenStack. LPARS experience a plus. Containerization using Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift. Automation with IBM NIM, Ansible, or Control-M. Deep knowledge of at least one scripting language (Perl, KSH, Bash, or Python). Veeam and IBM TSM backups. An understanding of SNMP and monitoring; experience with Nagios preferred. Knowledge of LPAR2RRD and Grafana also a plus.

Skills Qualifications: Experience in designing, implementing, and supporting virtualization for application delivery on a UNIX/Linux platform; comprehensive understanding of optimizing server workload and security; ability to support and maintain disaster recovery for supported systems; high degree of logical reasoning and attention to detail; ability to work well and communicate with others in an effective manner; ability to analyze and solve problems; ability to translate user needs and problems into creative solutions; and ability to oversee projects with minimal guidance.

Primary Responsibilities: Individual contributor providing a high degree of expertise in daily operations, support, maintenance, monitoring, and disaster recovery for the enterprise UNIX and Linux Environment.

1. Provision and manage the district's Linux and UNIX infrastructure in a physical and virtual environment on both x86 and Power systems.
2. Perform timely patches, tuning, and upgrades to the Linux/UNIX servers, and firmware upgrades at the system and device levels.
3. Develop and manage automation procedures UNIX/Linux for Provisioning, Management, Updates, and other functions.
4. Apply critical thinking and troubleshooting skills to resolve issues.
5. Assist other technical teams as needed to maintain operational integrity.
6. Monitor System Performance to proactively resolve issues before they become critical.
7. Research emerging technology trends and provide recommendations based on predicted business needs.
8. Draft and update support and operations manuals, standard operating procedures, life-cycle and other documentation as needed; working closely with peers to improve workflow processes & communication.
9. Provide subject matter expertise, mentoring, and overall system health information to leadership, customers, and coworkers.
10. Analyze system requirements and lead design and development activities to ensure departmental project deadlines are met.
11. Work well with technical and non-technical staff members in developmental and crisis situations.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. Employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. Employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
