The Dougherty County School System is seeking a science teacher to join our roster of experienced, motivated, and effective teaching professionals. The teacher will be responsible for preparing and implementing engaging lessons that address the academic needs and rigor of all students, while providing a positive learning environment that encourages lifelong learners.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Science or closely related field, with at least eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in Biology obtained from a regionally accredited institution; Valid Georgia Teacher certification or Charter Wavier eligible; Some high school experience working with students (required); Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to relate and motivate all students; Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; Ability to successfully integrate technology into the classroom while engaging students; Ability to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all aspects of instruction for high school and technical programs of study; Correctly assesses the educational needs and class progress of students; Selects and obtains appropriate educational materials for courses, prepares and reports student status in the program; Serve as a mentor to students, Develop course outlines, goals and objectives, prepares appropriate curricula, attend committee meetings relating to curriculum development, extracurricular activities and other sponsored activities or programs as required and prepares instructional reports for submission to principal; Evaluates student’s progress in attaining goals and objectives, establish testing procedures to measure student’s progress, communicate student’s progress to appropriate personnel while accurately keeping records of student information; Request and maintain supplies and equipment and prepares required budget requests, performs and maintains classroom inventory, Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending required staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences; Develop and meet with staff and students, other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of students, advise students on course selection and other pertinent matters in a professional and effective manner; Display a high level of effort and commitment to both students and the work, demonstrate appropriate trustworthiness and responsible behavior, lead the students in a professional manner; Maintains appropriate effective classroom management; Performs other such duties needed or assigned by supervisor.
REPORTS TO: Principal
SALARY RANGE: 10 months. Competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
