QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a school of Physical Therapy approved by the Georgia State Board of Physical Therapists, meeting the requirements of Section 84-3001 of the Georgia State Physical Therapy Act and be certified by the State of Georgia in Physical Therapy. Current license in Physical Therapy issued by the State of Georgia. Familiarity with a variety of treatment approaches including neurodevelopment treatment and sensory integration. Familiarity with a variety of adaptive equipment potentially used in the school setting to meet students’ needs. Familiarity with the educationally relevant Physical Therapy delivery model as provided by the Georgia Department of Education. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Evaluate special needs students referred to determine whether physical therapy is required to support the students’ Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Attend and participate in placement staffing pertinent to a student’s IEP and make appropriate recommendations concerning the need for physical therapy services. Document evaluation results will provide written input to appropriate persons. Collaborate with special education teacher(s) to write/recommend gross motor goals/objectives that support the needs of the student(s) as determined by the PT evaluation and IEP or 504 team. Consult with the student's physician concerning physical therapy treatment goals and possible precautions to treatment. Carry out regular therapy treatment in accordance with the student’s IEP treatment goals. Manage equipment supplies and repairs necessary for functional operation of physical therapy. Work closely with special education teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and parents regarding the needs of students to meet gross motor IEP or 504 plan goals/objectives. Assume the responsibility to maintain current records for the timely completion of Medicaid documentation. Work closely with equipment companies in regards to managing students’ personal equipment used at school to support gross motor IEP goals or students’ 504 plan. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director. REPORTS TO: Director of Exceptional Students Program
SALARY RANGE: Ten months. Salary in accordance to the DCSS Salary Guide
