The Dougherty County School System is seeking a dedicated School Social Worker to provide comprehensive school social work services to parents, students and school staff, addressing barriers that limit a student from receiving full benefits from their educational experience.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in Social Work; Hold or be eligible for certification as a School Social Worker; Able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects and responsibilities; Be able to collaborate effectively with District personnel, school leaders and staff; Knowledge of laws which affect children such as guardianship, custody and compulsory school attendance; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent communication, organization and case management skills; Ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team; Ability to apply critical thinking skills and recommendations in rendering solutions to various issues; Ability to exercise strict confidentiality in handling sensitive information. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide casework assessment and services to students and their families; Assist the schools in implementing the attendance policy and support compliance of the compulsory attendance law outlined by the Dougherty County School System; Prepare and file educational neglect and truancy petitions with the appropriate court agency once a student has accumulated excessive unexcused absences; Attend all court hearings on petitions filed; Conduct home visits to assess the social environment and to verify residency as requested by schools; Solicit the aid of community agencies and resources to provide tangible needs to the students and their families; refer parents and students to the agencies when appropriate; Work with parents and children in a confidential and caring manner and assists the family, school, and community in any way required to bridge gaps between family and school; Serve on student support teams and special education committees at assigned schools in the Dougherty County School System; Participate in professional development training aimed at current trends and best practices for provision of comprehensive school work services; Attend and participate in Manifestation meetings; Provide individual and/or group counseling in response to school-wide crises; Develop and implement professional development training for educational staff and parents, as requested; Maintain an ongoing liaison with community agencies to meet student needs; refers parents and students to agencies when appropriate; Performs other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

SALARY RANGE: Work days and salary to be established by the DCSS compensation guide.
