LOCATION: Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School
The Counselor will provide positive direction for students’ academic, social and emotional well-being. The Counselor will aid students in building their educational and/or career paths for their future.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree or above; Valid certificate in School Counseling; A minimum of three years successful counseling experience; Career and group counseling experience; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have exemplary communication, organization, and leadership skills; Ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and provide an effective comprehensive guidance and counseling program to serve the needs of all students; Responsible for tests administration and supervision, depending on school level; Provide orientation programs to acquaint students with new development and facilitate their school adjustment process; Provide direct support service to individual students, small groups and classrooms; Assist administration with coordination, articulation and follow-up procedures for students moving from school to school and from programs within the school; Act as a school based source for parents and school staff for information regarding community agencies; Provide student career options through individual and classroom presentations and community involvement; Assist students with immediate and long range educational planning; Collaborate with school personnel and parents on educationally related issues, when needed; Assist with school-based attendance and truancy interventions; Participate as a member of the school based Leadership Team; Maintain confidentiality, accuracy of records and assist with management of student records; Participate in professional growth activities as directed by the Principal; Adhere to all applicable laws and school system procedures and policies; Provide on-going advice and scheduling, depending on the school level; Participate in the creation of the Master Schedule, depending on school level; Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
REPORTS TO: Principal
SALARY RANGE: 220-day contract with salary to be established by the DCSS.
