POSITION: School Improvement Specialist (School-Based)

LOCATION: Merry Acres Middle School


The School Improvement Specialist will assist, support, and coach staff members in effective school improvement strategies. The School Improvement Specialist will promote school improvement by facilitating, training, providing professional development, and ensuring implementation of the school improvement plan. The School Improvement Specialist will also be responsible for providing onsite leadership and support to ensure effective implementation of best practices for the school improvement plan. The School Improvement Specialist works with school leaders to build capacity and sustainability for the school improvement process at the school level. The School Improvement Specialist supports school leadership with data analysis and the implementation of the School Improvement Plan.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of five (5) years successful teaching and supervisory experience and hold a valid Teaching and/or Leadership clear renewable certificate; Master’s degree or higher degree; Experience in analyzing data that will show improvement in student work and teacher performance; Demonstrates interest and engagement in professional learning and reflection; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to use problem-solving skills to generate solutions; Strong organizational and data management skills; Strong motivational skills and communicates, collaborates, and utilizes interpersonal skills; Ability to deliver training programs to achieve desired results; Working expertise and thorough understanding of the school improvement process at the school and district levels; Working expertise of differentiated instruction and other instructional best practices; Ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Designs and organize school improvement strategic plans that will assist the school in reaching its CCRPI goals; Maintains instructional knowledge that will benefit the total program of the school district; Assists administrators and teachers by using collaborative models of observations to promote quality instructional practices; Maintains all pertinent school improvement documentation in the required platform; Designs and monitors an implementation plan for increased learning time to meet the needs of students; Designs and facilitates school-based professional learning that impacts teacher practice and informs how data is utilized to improve student achievement; Measures the effectiveness of professional learning and increased learning time and collaborates to mitigate challenges; Understands and assists with the work in analyzing data used to compute CCRPI; Conducts high-quality, sustained training sessions, presentations, and workshops; Coordinates with LEA on appropriate budgeting and expenditure of funds; Works with curriculum in identifying and providing resource materials to schools and teachers; Assists and provides building administrators with best-practice models when analyzing school, teacher, and student data; Creates and maintains an effective monitoring instrument to measure school improvement growth; Performs other such duties needed or assigned by appropriate administrator.

REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
