License and Certification Qualifications: Valid Georgia driver's license required. Valid Commercial Driver?s License (CDL) and Level 1-A Erosion Control certification required within 90 days of hire. National Playground Safety Institute Playground Safety Inspector certification is preferred (certification is required within one year of employment).

Education Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Building technical training preferred.

Experience Qualifications: Two years of experience in playground maintenance, rubberized running surfaces, site construction, commercial construction, building site maintenance, or related experience required.

Skills Qualifications: Ability to follow oral and written instructions quickly and accurately; ability to communicate with others in an effective and tactful manner; ability to follow technical instructions and diagrams; ability to identify hazards on public playground equipment and the playground; ability to use materials, tools, and equipment to apply the knowledge to remove hazards on playground equipment and the playground; ability to implement, operate, and maintain a computer-based playground inspection system; and knowledge of rubberized running track surfaces, exterior handicap codes, procedures, materials, tools, hazards, and safety procedures.

Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for inspecting and maintaining district playgrounds and playground equipment according to handicap codes and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards and maintaining running tracks and tennis courts for the Grounds Maintenance Department.

1. Maintain all system playground equipment to standards promulgated by the National Playground Safety Institute, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, and ASTM.
a. Perform quarterly safety inspections in accordance with the National Playground Safety Institute regulations.
b. Install, repair, and maintain playgrounds and playground equipment.
c. Repair and install various types of hardware equipment and materials according to handicap codes and ASTM standards.

2. Perform preventive maintenance on playground equipment and complete necessary repairs.
a. Record repairs completed and parts used according to departmental guidelines.

3. Maintain and install athletic track and field events equipment and surfaces such as rubberized running surfaces, long jump runways and pits, pole vault runways and landing zones, and discus cages.

4. Maintain and account for all tools, parts, and equipment issued according to departmental guidelines.

5. Maintain accurate and organized records of equipment service requests and work order inventories.
a. Utilize the handheld work order/inventory management device and complete assignments in a timely manner.
b. Monitor the handheld work order/inventory management device to ensure work log is up-to-date and record notes as necessary.

6. Supervise and review work of private contractors and/or miscellaneous employees.
a. Maintain safe work procedures and ensure compliance with any additional guidelines and appropriate regulations.

7. Respond promptly to urgent situations and seek additional assistance as needed.
a. Be subject to being called 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, negotiate stairs, climb ladders, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear, manipulate tools and small items with hands, and lift and transport up to 50 pounds over short distances. The employee is required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of duties. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision. The employee may be subjected to a wide range of ambient temperature and humidity conditions while working on equipment under varying conditions including overhead work and work in confined spaces. Potential hazards of this position include working with noise producing machinery and equipment and working on elevated equipment using ladders or other lifting devices.
