POSITION: Assistant Principal

JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Principal is a member of the school leadership team and supports the Principal in providing the instructional and organizational leadership. The Assistant Principal also works with others to execute a school improvement plan and allocates resources to continually improve student achievement. In addition, this individual serves as the school’s advocate and works with all stakeholders to create a common vision for the school that best positions the school for success and engages students and their community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in Education is required; higher degree is preferred; Must hold or be eligible for the appropriate Georgia Leadership Certification in the area of Educational Leadership; Five years of progressively responsible experience in education as a classroom teacher, counselor, instructional coach or other certified position; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate. SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to work with and serve as a liaison with various constituencies; Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe, listen, and provide leadership which results in the best possible teaching and learning atmosphere; Strong decision-making ability, problem-solving skills, proven performance and resource management skills; Ability to effectively lead, organize, and direct the work of others; Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe, listen and provide leadership which results in the best possible work environment; Ability to develop implement, monitor, and evaluate program goals and initiatives; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Ability to exercise strict confidence in handling sensitive information; Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Assumes responsibility in the absence of the principal; assists in the enforcement of policies concerning student discipline and attendance; Assists with safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of students, while fostering an engaging learning environment; Keeps the principal apprised of activities, situations, and developments that affect the school operation; Assists in building a talented instructional team; Assists in the supervision, observation and evaluation of staff; Assists with the organization and implementation of staff development; Assists with directing and improving curriculum and instruction; Conducts faculty meetings when requested by the Principal; Assists in the enforcement of policies concerning student discipline and attendance; Supervises student activities, assemblies and other activities; Assists in organizing student activities; Assists with the supervision of student orientation, registration, and scheduling; Supervises textbook and equipment inventory as assigned by the Principal; Assists with the administration and supervision of the total school program in accordance with applicable regulations; Assists with the maintenance and operations of the school facility; Performs other duties as assigned.
REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
