POSITION: Human Resource Specialist

LOCATION: Central Office


To provide highly responsible clerical, administrative and supervisory support to all areas of the Human Resources Department. Perform both routine and non-routine administrative support as needed. To function and carry out designated responsibilities with limited supervision with high levels of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism.

QUALIFICATIONS: Diploma in Business and Office Technology or related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred; Minimum of five years in an office setting; preferably human resources; Thorough knowledge of office practices and procedures; Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent communication (oral and written) and organizational skills are essential; Excellent customer service skills in working with employees, administrators and the public; Adhere to and knowledgeable of School Board policies and procedures pertaining to personnel; Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines; Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy; Ability to maintain confidentiality; Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs various general clerical tasks required, including entering data in the computer, preparing reports and correspondence, copying documents, collating documents, filing, and answering the telephone, etc.); Provides superior customer service; greets visitors, determines the nature of business and refers to the appropriate colleague or department; answers employment questions via emails, voicemail, or in person based on knowledge of the organization and District policies and procedures; Disseminates information to schools as needed; Assists schools and district with pre-employment tasks such as job postings, advertising, hiring, and training following the process until completion of hiring; Assists with clearance for contractors, interns, mentors, service providers, personnel, and applicants; Coordinates and maintains various departmental and employee files; Maintains employee certification records to ensure information is reported correctly on the CPI Report; Assists with employment requirements for all personnel. Consisting of, but not limited to, application process, document requirements, and orientation; Stays up-to-date with a wide variety of information pertaining to state and federal laws and regulations then distributes as needed for adherence to these laws and regulations; Performs recruitment and selection duties, providing position information to potential employees, electronic screening of applicants, conducting certification and reference checks, notifying candidates of position status, maintaining electronic application files, etc.; Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including job applications, letters of recommendation, vacancy announcements, budget reports, employment verification reports, unemployment compensation forms, attendance reports, staffing reports, personnel transaction forms, memos, correspondence, etc.; Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other administrators, co-workers, District personnel, applicants, professional peers, students, parents, and the general public. Assists with payroll inquiries from administrators, principals, employees, and applicants; Using technology, reviews and processes job applications; enters data and verifies eligibility and evaluation status of applicants; Creates and distributes various confidential correspondence (i.e. contracts, employee confirmations, separations, assignment changes, etc.); Collaborates with Benefits, Payroll, and Finance, etc. as needed to ensure an efficient workflow process; Answers questions via emails, voice mail, or in person based on knowledge of the organization and District policies and procedures; Assists with, new hire orientation, Career Fairs, and other Human Resource Office activities; Attends training sessions to maintain up-to-date working knowledge of relevant laws and policies; Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Human Resources

SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
