License and Certification Qualifications: Meets Georgia certification requirements in appropriate field of study or holds licensure or certification in related field. Leadership certification preferred.

Education Qualifications: Master's degree in related field required. Doctorate preferred.

Experience Qualifications: 3 years previous leadership experience required. Service in public schools preferred; experience establishing strong process and procedures to oversee functionality of office, including administrative and supervisory tasks with extensive experience in successfully implementing behavior intervention programs and strategies and establishing strong positive school culture.

Skills Qualifications: Strong interpersonal skills, management, and leadership; ability to collaboratively work with individuals, teams, and stakeholders; ability to set departmental goals, create and execute action plans that align with the district?s vision; ability to communicate effectively via demonstrated oral and written communication; effective skills in organization and problem solving; ability to analyze existing processes and identify areas for improvement; and ability to act as a representative of Gwinnett County Public Schools.

Primary Responsibilities: To oversee the daily procedures and operations of the office of Behavior Supports and Interventions; setting district goals to support positive behavior at each level of the multi-tiered supports system by providing appropriate professional development, frameworks, resources, and tools to promote student success and establishing a strong expectation of positive, supportive and inclusive classroom and school learning environments.

1. Direct and oversee all operations and continuous improvement efforts of the Behavior Supports and Intervention Office to support the district’s goal of establishing and maintaining an effective multi-tiered system of supports by establishing a supportive, inclusive, and positive school and classroom environment.

2. Design, develop, and implement intervention programs to improve student behavior within the multi-tiered system of supports.
a. Provide leadership of the design, delivery, and evaluation of staff development for all staff involved with positive behavior intervention and support strategies, in-school suspension and behavior support and evaluation.
b. Direct the development of intervention programs and strategies to improve student behavior in schools and to support a feeling of belonging and the development of social and emotional competencies.
c. Establish district expectation for school climate and culture through positive behavior support.

3. Monitor disciplinary data to assist in identifying support needs in the areas of behavior and climate for the district.

4. Establish and support district expectations for professional development around positive behavior strategies and interventions.

5. Direct training activities and functions related to student behavior supports and interventions.
a. Conduct training and provide support for schools implementing positive behavioral interventions and support.
b. Oversee training in school climate support including, de-escalation, culturally responsive, trauma- informed and SEL strategies.
c. Visit local schools to meet with principals, PBIS team and other behavior support personnel to monitor and assist with behavior implementation and interventions.
d. Direct the implementation of classroom management training and interventions to be offered as a resource to local schools.

6. Provide leadership and guidance to schools for the implementation and sustainability of Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS).
a. Direct the consultation process with principals and assistant principals related to matters pertaining to PBIS.
b. Guide and advise schools on programming to improve student behavior.
c. Serve as the district liaison to the state on the PBIS program, to receive and communicate expectations, changes, and updates to the PBIS program.

7. Maintain current knowledge of researched based frameworks and best practices regarding behavior support and interventions.
a. Establish program guidelines, professional development expectations and monitoring processes for In-School Suspension (ISS) at all schools with a focus on reflection, SEL and restorative strategies.
b. Prepare and present behavior support and intervention presentations for the Summer Leadership Conference and other events as required.

8. Recommend changes to existing practices or processes where appropriate to ensure continuous improvement of the department.

9. Ensure world-class customer service is provided by the Behavior Support and Intervention Office.

10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
