POSITION: District Instructional Support Specialist

LOCATION: Albany High Complex


The District Instructional Support Specialist works with teachers and school and district leaders to improve instructional practice through technology integration. The Instructional Support Specialist supports district curricular initiatives through job-embedded professional learning and collaboration with school and district support personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a valid teaching certificate at the minimum T-5 Level; Must have a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in the classroom as reflected in student performance measures; Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in technology integration in a standards-based classroom; Must have experience with utilizing G Suite for Education Apps, Google Classroom, Interactive Whiteboard for content delivery, and various online assessment tools; Must have knowledge of instructional technology tools that enhance the four C’s of 21st-century skills: Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Critical Thinking; Must have experience with providing professional learning for teachers; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have exemplary communication, organization, and leadership skills necessary to facilitate an effective professional learning community; Ability to use problem-solving skills to generate solutions; Ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team; Must be able to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Models effective technology integration in the standards-based classroom, particularly in a one-to-one computing environment; Collaborates with instructional staff to develop curriculum materials and specific instructional strategies as identified in school improvement plans; Serves as a member of district committees for the development of activities, training materials, and programs to disseminate information and promote collaboration among schools; Provides sustained, in-depth professional learning to teachers and administrators which focuses on research-based best practices with the approved curriculum; Monitors the use of instructional technology to ensure that resources and activities enhance rigorous academic content; Assists in designing professional learning modules and materials that are aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence and other state and national learning standards; Provides frequent feedback to teachers and administrators regarding the integration of instructional strategies in the standards-based classroom; Continually researches and evaluates new instructional resources; Provides instructional leadership and collaborates with the curriculum department and technology advisory committee to develop, implement, and update the instructional technology plan for the district; Collaborates with teachers, media, and technology staff to evaluate and select resources addressing curricular needs and learning goals; Maintains daily calendar and supporting documentation of activities (agendas, sign-in sheets, handouts, etc.); Serves as the district contact for selecting software programs in collaboration with the curriculum and IT departments; Follows the cycle of continuous improvement in order to ensure the effectiveness and impact of activities on student performance; Serves as a district mentor to provide support to new teachers as part of the New Teacher Induction (NTI) program; Performs such alternatives to the above requirements as the Board or supervisor may find appropriate.

REPORTS TO: Director of School Improvement

SALARY RANGE: 220-day contract with salary to be established by the DCSS.
