POSITION: Instructional Coach

LOCATION: Merry Acres Middle School


The Instructional Coach will work with the classroom teachers in assisting with the full implementation and monitoring of all district’s adopted programs and curriculum. The Instructional Coach will also work with administrators and teachers to collect and analyze data, interpret, and use it to guide instructional decisions. The Instructional Coach must take a hands-on approach to improve instruction and student learning and foster teacher development. This will include modeling lessons in classrooms, helping teacher groups plan instruction, and facilitating professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS: Hold a Master’s Degree or higher in curriculum and instruction is preferred; A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience and certification at the specific grade level is required; Knowledge of the design and implementation of lesson plans for students; Strong knowledge of best practices in instruction; Understanding the characteristics of learners; Knowledge of the processes of successful coaching; Successful experience in working collegially with teachers; Successful experience as a staff developer is desirable; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to provide remediation appropriate with program standards to impact student learning progress and development with a wide range of achievement levels; Ability to use the latest technical technology in education; Excellent communication and organizational skills; Ability to communicate, problem-solve, manage conflict and collaborate effectively; Ability to share research-based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators; Ability to train teachers in utilizing measures of achievement like universal screeners to diagnose and remediate students. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Increases student academic achievement; Teaches, models, and facilitates research-based best practices within the school’s instructional program; Evaluates student achievement and assist with placing students in the appropriate intervention and support service; Identifies needs and makes recommendations for appropriate instructional materials and assessments that directly support and align with the district instructional goals; Facilitates change in instructional practices of teachers that will enable teachers to diagnose student needs more analytically, plan more productively, and teach more effectively; Trains teachers, disaggregates and analyzes student achievement data to improve student performance; Collaborates with teachers to develop best practices for the continuous academic growth of students; Provides professional development on best practices in instruction across the curriculum; Establishes, maintains, and enhances effective communication with administrators, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders; Observes teachers in their classrooms and offer insight for enhancement of teaching-learning situations; Provides specific integration and differentiation strategies that enable teachers to meet the needs of all learners; Networks with other instructional coaches and participate fully in ongoing professional development to extend literacy and instructional competencies in all content areas; Demonstrates appropriate use of instructional technology and other educational tools to enhance and extend instruction; Performs other duties as it relates to the improvement of student achievement as determined by the Principal.
REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
