POSITION: Financial/Budget Analyst

LOCATION: Central Office


The Financial/Budget Analyst will advise and assist school and district personnel regarding matters relating to accounting and financial record management and reporting systems.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Four years of experience in Governmental Fund Accounting; Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Excellent communication skills both written and verbal; Ability to use problem-solving skills to generate solutions; Must be able to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.
Oversees state, federal and local grants; Prepares, inputs, and maintains school system general ledgers in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines; Assures the timely preparation and submission of state and federal fiscal documents and reports required; Assists the grant Program Directors with budget development and amendments; Assists the grant Program Directors with any special reports required by the State; Prepares monthly and/or quarterly State reports due for grants; Maintains a listing of all budgeted positions to ensure proper assignment of employees; Reviews computer reports for errors or inconsistencies; investigates and corrects problems; Interprets accounting data, analyzes reports, and recommends action to be taken; Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and school system regulations; Reviews and approves grant-funded requisitions and ensures that expendable funds are available and in compliance with policy; Prepares necessary journal entries and journal entry documentation; Monitors cash needs and prepares cash requisitions with all documentation required for all State and Federal funds through the Georgia Department of Education portal; Compares actual expenditures to budgeted expenditures to ensure that funds are spent according to the approved grant budget; Assist Program Directors in the management of grants by providing expenditure reports and expenditure projections monthly; Reconciles general ledger balance sheet accounts monthly and maintains the necessary documentation and detail supporting those balances; Prepares completion reports for submission to the granting agency; Prepares accounting reports and statements such as detailed cost and financial analysis, forecasts, and projections reflecting interrelationships of accounting data; prepares or assists in preparation of special reports; Attends workshops for professional learning as needed; Requires the working of extra hours during critical periods throughout the fiscal year; Performs year-end closeout duties for grants and programs, i.e., salary accruals; Assists with the preparation of the annual financial statements; Assists with auditing school activity account as needed; Cooperates with the auditors and provides information as requested; Performs other tasks as the Accounting Coordinator, Budget & Grants Coordinator or CFO may be assigned.
REPORTS TO: Budgets & Grants Coordinator

SALARY RANGE: Twelve-month annual contract. Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
