POSITION: Career Transition Specialist

LOCATION: Central Office


The Career Transition Specialist is responsible for providing students in the Connected2Careers high school graduation pathway with school-to-career transition support and placement services leading to full-time jobs, higher education or advanced training. The Career Transition Specialist will work cooperatively with Albany Technical College and Dougherty County School System staff to provide our students with comprehensive and individualized case management and to identify and remediate students' school-to-career transitional barriers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to: Bachelor’s degree in education, business, or related field; advanced degree preferred; Five years of work experience with business/industry in the areas of education, case management, business and economic development, and/or connecting business to education; experience in higher education academic counseling highly preferred; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to use problem-solving skills to generate solutions; Demonstrates strong organizational and data management skills; Demonstrates effective time management and organization skills; Demonstrates strong motivational skills and communicates, collaborates and utilizes interpersonal skills; Ability to sufficiently mobilize to provide program support and manage student behaviors; Ability to perform accurate case management; Ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team; Demonstrates interest and engagement in career development. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates student activities that pertain to all aspects of career transition readiness, job readiness, and career guidance; Coordinates with CTAE staff, counselors, and other career-related education personnel to carry out the advisement activities for students in the Connected2Careers high school graduation pathway; Assists in the coordination of career fairs and career days; Works with DCSS high school principals, counselors, and 4CA site administrators to ensure students receive comprehensive career guidance; Advises students in all aspects of career transition readiness and job placement; Creates and maintains a caseload of active student files, establishing a tickler system for caseload management, maintains frequent, consistent contact through in-person, virtual, email, and telephone correspondence; Works closely with Albany Technical College to ensure adequate academic monitoring and the employability development of students enrolled in the Connected2Careers high school graduation pathway; Visits classrooms and job sites to familiarize students with career-transition processes, employability skills, career preparation, job search, job retention, and other identified topics; Compiles required data from respective areas in order to prepare students' resumes and placement documents; Maintains program statistics to assist in determining program effectiveness; Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
REPORTS TO: Chief Strategy Officer

SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
