POSITION: Head Guidance Counselor

JOB SUMMARY:The Counselor will provide a comprehensive guidance and counseling program designed to address the social, emotional, and educational and occupational needs of all students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in counseling; preferred; Three years of successful counseling experience; Career and group counseling experience; Intensive Master Scheduling and Infinite Campus experience; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have exemplary communication, organization, and leadership skills; Ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team; Evidence of leadership skills, especially in the area of diverse populations; Ability to collaborate with staff and community members in the delivery of programs and services to students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops and provides an effective comprehensive guidance and counseling program to serve the needs of all students; Provides recommendations to the Principal and all members of the School Improvement Team to continuously improve the School Counseling Program; Responsible for tests administration and supervision, depending on the school level; Provides orientation programs to acquaint students with new development and facilitate their school adjustment process; Provides direct support service to individual students, small groups, and classrooms; Provides brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refers students to behavioral health specialists; Participates on a Student Success Team, identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services, and coordinates with behavioral health specialists; Assists administration with coordination, articulation, and follow-up procedures for students moving from school to school and from programs within the school; Acts as a school-based source for parents and school staff for information regarding community agencies; Maintains a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates information about students to other professionals as appropriate; Provides student career options through individual and classroom presentations and community involvement; Advisies students on multiple postsecondary pathways (e.g. college, career-specific credentials and certifications. Apprenticeships, military, employment with a family supporting wage); Connects students to early college programs (e.g. dual enrollment, dual credit); Assists students with immediate and long-range educational planning; Collaborates with school personnel and parents on educationally related issues, when needed; Assists with school-based attendance and truancy interventions; Participates as a member of the school-based Leadership Team; Maintains confidentiality, the accuracy of records, and assists with the management of student records; Participates in professional growth activities as directed by the Principal; Adheres to all applicable laws and school system procedures and policies; Provides ongoing advice and scheduling, depending on the school level; Participates in the creation of the Master Schedule, depending on the school level; Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
