License and Certification Qualifications: Licensed through the Board of Nursing in Georgia as a Registered Professional Nurse. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.

Education Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited school or college of nursing.

Experience Qualifications: Three years nursing experience required. Pediatric experience preferred.

Skills Qualifications: Effective critical thinking skills requiring competency in nursing process, problem solving, and decision-making; ability to provide specialized health-related services on a direct/indirect basis; ability to communicate effectively with the public, students, parents, physicians, and staff; and the ability to work successfully with colleagues.

Primary Responsibilities: Provide direct patient care to a student who has been determined medically fragile and is in need of a continuum of nursing support in order to participate in a school setting.

1. Perform appropriate medical procedures in compliance with the "Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act" that are prescribed by physician/health care provider's orders.

2. Assess and document student's physical and psycho-social status appropriate to the age of the student served.

3. Document from a plan of care for the continuum of services, utilizing appropriate standards of care, resources, and disciplines, in collaboration with the Direct Care Nurse Facilitator.

4. Implement and coordinate the plan of care, making appropriate revisions in response to changing needs and situations.

5. Administer intravenous fluids and medications as prescribed by physician/health care provider.

6. Evaluate and document student's response to interventions and make appropriate revisions to meet desired outcomes.

7. Communicate effectively with student, family, school personnel, other disciplines, and the Direct Care Nurse Facilitator in facilitating the plan of care.

8. Conduct and document appropriate health teaching to student and/or family.

9. Complete student's specific skill competency requirements.

10. Complete all orientation activities and serve as a mentor to a newly hired or substitute Direct Care Nurse.

11. Follow the policies and procedures for Gwinnett County Public Schools.

12. Demonstrate independent decision-making and accountability consistent with the role of a Registered Professional Nurse.

13. Recognize and anticipate potential problems or crisis and exercise appropriate nursing judgment and problem solving in a timely manner.

14. Participate in care conferences and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) as requested.

15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to manipulate, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
