License and Certification Qualifications: Valid Georgia library/media certification required. Must hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Educator's Certificate in Educational Leadership and/or Support Personnel License issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

Education Qualifications: Master's degree in related field required. Specialist or doctorate degree in related field preferred.

Experience Qualifications: Five years of professional media experience required. Experience in a school media setting preferred. Supervisory experience preferred.

Skills Qualifications: Knowledge of library media and instructional/information technology; ability to work successfully with colleagues; ability to conceptualize the supervision of the K-12 grade level and system level media program; expertise with digital resources; demonstrated skills in oral and written communication; demonstrated skills in organization and problem solving; ability to develop implement, monitor, and evaluate program goals and initiatives; and ability to act as a representative of Gwinnett County Public Schools.

Primary Responsibilities: Provide leadership to support and develop school media programs by planning, implementing, and evaluating media resources and databases and manage the electronic learning community of resources for students and staff.

1. Provide leadership for school media programs.
a. Communicate media program goals and develop a vision for local school media programs and their support of the district's mission, vision, and goals.
b. Coordinate the development of pilot programs and proposals for improvement of media programs in utilization of media technologies at the local school and district level.
c. Work collaboratively with Media Specialists, ITI Coaches, and Technology Support Technicians to provide information access for students through licensed databases, internet, and Galileo.
d. Collaborate with curriculum directors to support core curriculum with appropriate supplementary resources for media center collections.
e. Research new products and innovations that support instruction at the system and school level.
f. Collaborate with other departments and divisions to ensure central office, school, and home access to digital resources.
g. Supervise the processing services provided to local school for media center, bookroom, parent center, and other instructional materials.

2. Plan and implement various functions of the school media programs.
a. Plan with media, instructional, and technology staff to provide access to digital resources.
b. Coordinate the selection and evaluation of resources for the district's professional library.
c. Facilitate a committee for the selection and purchase of media print and non-print collections for new schools.
d. Facilitate media center collection development for local schools.
e. Work collaboratively with school Media Specialists to implement local, state, and district media standards.
f. Coordinate circulation of resources in the professional library.
g. Coordinate district literary events such as Readers Rally.

3. Provide professional learning opportunities for Media Specialists, Media Clerks, administrators, instructional staff, and others as appropriate.
a. Coordinate professional learning classes for Media Specialists new to the district and new Media Clerks.
b. Coordinate the mentoring program for new Media Specialists.

4. Coordinate the functions involving digital resources and online databases.
a. Coordinate the selection, purchase, and support for teacher and student access to digital resources including e-books and licensed databases.
b. Collaborate with staff in curriculum and instruction to ensure digital resources meet instructional needs.
c. Collaborate with vendors for online resource database improvements and contractual agreements.
d. Assist with communications to ITI Coaches, Technology Support Technicians, and Media Specialists.

5. Provide leadership and support in the planning of new and renovated media centers.
a. Supervise plans for new media centers, renovations and remodels.
b. Coordinate updates to media centers involving new paint, carpet, furniture shelving and circulation desks.
c. Work with Business and Finance to update the bid list for media center related items.

6. Assist with budgeting functions for the Media Services and Technology Training Department.
a. Prepare budget requests and recommendations for online resources.
b. Manage contract negotiations for licensed online resources.
c. Manage the expenditures of funds budgeted for online resources, professional periodicals, professional collection, new school opening collections, and the instructional resources collection.
d. Assist with the development of media and information professional learning yearly budget requests.

7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
