License and Certification Qualifications: Parapro Educator certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) required.

Education Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and passed the Praxis Parapro Assessment (prior to March 1, 2007) or the GACE Parapro Assessment required. In lieu of assessments, 60 semester or 90 quarter hours from a Professional Standards Commission (PSC) approved college or university are required.

Experience Qualifications: Experience working with basic computers and technology required. Experience with general productivity software such as a word processor preferred. Previous experience working with children and adults preferred.

Skills Qualifications: Knowledge of child development; strong interpersonal skills; strong organizational and clerical skills; working knowledge of office and media equipment; willingness to learn new technologies; ability to operate computers and Windows applications; and ability to work and communicate with students, staff, and the community.

Primary Responsibilities: Provide support to the local school media center under the supervision of the Media Specialist to ensure a quality media program which provides media resources, facilities, and services to all areas of the instructional program.

1. Provideinstructional support to the local school media center.
a. Assist patrons withmedia center activities and technologies.
b. Identify and gatherappropriate media center resources as needed.
c. Work with Media Specialistto train and supervise volunteers and student assistants.
d. Facilitate a climateof respect encouraging a safe, welcoming and supportive environment.
e. Assist Media Specialistwith special events.
f. Maintain familiarityof the media center collection.
g. Work with Media Specialistto implement safe, legal, and ethical use of information.
h. Encourage the useof multiple formats for reading and research.
I. Assistpatrons with use of the online media catalog.
j. Support readingpromotion through media center displays as directed.

2. Perform clerical dutiesto support the school media program.
a. Maintain electronicrecords in the online catalog.
b. Shelve and maintaincorrect order of materials.
c. Assist MediaSpecialist with the inventory of the media center collection and equipment.
d. Assist MediaSpecialist with the operation and maintenance of instructional equipment.
e. Repair mediacenter materials as directed.
f. Createand submit maintenance requests for items managed by the media center.
g. Process mediacenter materials and maintain routine record keeping as directed.
h. Ensure themedia center is organized and orderly for optimal accessibility of resources.
i. Assiststaff and students reserving media center space, equipment or resources.
j. AssistMedia Specialist by running circulation and collection reports in the onlinemedia catalog.

3. Attend local and districtprofessional learning opportunities.

4. Perform other dutiesas assigned.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. Employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to toouch, handle, feel, and/or reach. Employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
